North Korea Launches Missile Over Japan towards the sea After United States (US) Drills with South Korea. An American aircraft carrier was redeployed near the Korean Peninsula on Monday, which it warned was inflaming tensions.

A statement released by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea said two missiles were launched from Munchon, on Sunday between 1:48 a.m. and 1:58 a.m. The South Korean military maintains a readiness in close coordination with the United States and has boosted its surveillance posture.

Toshiro Ino, vice defense minister of Japan, confirmed Pyongyang’s launches, calling them “absolutely unacceptable” as they threaten regional and international security.

If North Korea were to begin firing missiles from a submarine, it would represent an alarming development for rivals since such launches are harder to detect in advance.

According to South Korean and Japanese military sources, the missiles flew about 350 kilometers (217 miles) and reached heights of 90 to 100 kilometers (56 to 60 miles) before falling into the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.

In response to the launches, the South Korean presidential office said National Security Director Kim Sung-han called an emergency security meeting, during which members assessed the South’s defense readiness and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with the United States and Japan to deal with North Korean threats.

On Saturday, North Korea’s Defense Ministry warned that Reagan’s redeployment was causing a “considerably huge negative splash” in regional security. The ministry called its recent missile tests a “righteous reaction” to intimidating military drills between South Korea and the United States.

In the past year, North Korea has tested other nuclear-capable ballistic missiles within striking distance of the US mainland, South Korea, and Japan.
