The Central Government has decided to Appoint Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired) as the New Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)

After General Bipin Rawat’s death in a chopper crash in Tamil Nadu on December 8, 2021

The ministry of defence announced that the retired Lt General would also serve as Secretary to Government of India

Chauhan is the first retired officer in the country’s military to serve as its most senior officer.

Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan was born in 1961 and attended the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

His contribution to national security and strategic matters continued after he retired from the Army.

At the time of the Balakot strike in 2019, he served as Director General of Military Operations

he also led a joint Indo-Myanmar military operation that targeted multiple insurgent groups in the Northeast
